The Minnesota Department has notified the city that it has issued a health alert for Manganese at the water treatment plant and recommends the city notify its customers of the potential health risk. Note that the EPA Safe Water Drinking Act does not regulate Manganese but does offer health guidelines.
It appears that the main contributing factor is the higher levels for Well #2. The city had not routinely used Well#2 for some time but did use it extensively this summer and fall when it updated the electrical panels and replaced the pumps. The city is working with its engineer and People Service. Remedial steps are to inspect Well #2 and if necessary clean or replace the screens and change the filter media at the plant.
