City Drinking Water

The City of Wabasso regularly submits drinking water samples to the Minnesota Department of Health.  The City continually meet all of MDH regulations except for slightly elevated manganese levels.  While manganese is not a regulated mineral, the MDH does issue guidelines for elevated levels.   This elevated manganese levels may be causing iron deposits to settle in the system which occasionally break loose and cause discoloration.  This can be remedied by running your water for 5 to 10 minutes until it clears.  The city is also taking action to lower the manganese levels.  The city has backwashed the water system and increased the treatment levels.  The city is waiting for the results of the most recent drinking water tests.  If the manganese levels remain elevated the city plans to shock the filter media.  The city may ultimately need to replace the media and shock the wells.  If you have a water softener, make sure it is working correctly.  A water softener should remove all particles if working properly.  The city takes its water treatment very seriously and will continue our efforts to make sure you receive the best water possible.  Please contact the city at 507-342-5519 if you have any questions.
